Is Apollo’s Nudist Beach In Trouble?

April 29, 2007 By: USAnudist Category: Nudist News Comments Off

What was a big success story for nude beaches in 2000 may now be endangered. One of Florida’s two legal nude beaches, Apollo Beach welcomes thousands of nude visitors each year.

Carol Clark, who became Park Superintendent two years ago, says the nudists effectively block others, especioally families, from access to Klondike Beach, which lies beyond the designated nude beach area. She says “You cannot bring children there. I do have to try to deal with that, because no area of the park should be closed to anyone. I don’t have an answer.” Clark also said “We actually do not have clothing-optional beaches. Just to make that point clear: That’s their term.”

An agreement between several nudist and naturist groups and Canaveral National Seashore, signed on April 14, 2000, provided for a one year trial period, renewable for up to five years, before being reevaluated. Although the agreement has expired, so far, no changes have been made in policies regarding nude use.

While Clark’s options for blocking nude use are limited, she also has no intention of signing a new agreement with naturists.

On March 29, NAC issued a NAC Action Alert, calling for you to take
action by contacting key Florida lawmakers concerning four threatening
legislative bills.

As a direct result of your aggressive response, each of those four bills
has been derailed. Three bills were simply allowed to die in committee.
The fourth was given a committee hearing today, but only after the
threatening language had been removed from it.

Simply put, we won them all!

Ban On Human Clothing?
Nude ModelSalem, Oregon, cartoonist Glen Bledsoe’s inspiration for his latest cartoon strip Nota Bene was inspired by his misreading of the recent House bill proposed by Representative Donna Nelson to ban human cloning. Bledsoe’s three previous strips were titled “Nude Anatomy,” “The Naked Hitchhiker” and “Skin Deep,” and thought Nelson had come around to his way of thinking and was inspired to create legislation that revealed the beauty of the human body. His latest cartoon is called “The Ban on Human Clothing.” Read Bledsoe’s cartoon.

Nude Sculpture Removed
nude sculptureA controversial nude sculpture was removed from a roundabout sculpture park in Loveland, Colorado. Residents were concerned about children viewing the sculpture that depicts two women and one man. Artist Kristin Kokkin wanted the sculpture to be “kind of a wheel so that the energy is flowing from all three of them and it really and truly is how humanity relies on support of people.” According to Jim Baldwin, of the Loveland Visual Arts Commission, there has been controversy about every nude that has been part of the collection. A poll on cbs4denver.com revealed that 71% of respondents felt the statue should not be removed. The 1,200 lb. bronze was moved in a flatbead truck across town at a cost of about $8,000. College Art Classes Need Nude Models

April 17, 2007 By: USAnudist Category: Nudist News Comments Off

The Valley Vanguard, the student newspaper of Saginaw Valley State University, reports that art class students feel the experience of drawing from nude models is essential to learning their craft.

Their big problem seems to be that they don’t have enough variety in models. While the school would prefer to have many different sizes, shapes, and ethnic backgrounds for every class, they often end up with only a few models for the whole year.

If you are interested in helping them with their need, there’s a phone number at the end of their story.
