Nude Flight Might Get Grounded
A much-publicized charter flight for nudists to the Baltic Sea island of Usedom might not take place after all. The German flight was intended to be an occasion for nudists to fly au naturel at 30,000 feet. Earlier this year, the Internet travel agency OssiUrlaub.de announced a textile-free flight to the Baltic Sea in July which grabbed the attention of media outlets from around the world. The flight was sold out almost immediately. But according to a newspaper report, the air carrier has gone back on their pledge to provide one of their airplanes for the flight. “The carrier apparently got cold feet due to the intense public interest,” a spokesperson from OssiUrlaub.de told the Ostthüringer Zeitung newspaper. A spokesperson for the air carrier, however, denied the allegation, saying they get hundreds of requests daily for charter flights and a contract for a nudist trip was never negotiated. Art Lovers Raise Money For Virginia Teens
Local art lovers are raising money for two teens that lost their top awards in an art contest after their work depicting nudity was deemed inappropriate, reports HamptonRoads.com. Acoustical Sheetmetal Incorporated of Virginia Beach donated $1,000 to 17-year-old Nancy “Beth” Reid of Portsmouth, who painted a nude self-portrait. It’s what she would have received as the winner of The Virginian-Pilot Student Gallery art contest, which has been open to high school juniors and seniors in the area for the past 36 years. Reid said she was interested in art history and has been impacted by the nudes she has seen in classical art. She told an interviewer, “Now, it’s almost like if you see a naked person it’s pornographic, and that’s not true.” A similar award will go to 17-year-old Jasmine Childs of Chesapeake. Her sculpture of a nude, pregnant torso was also selected a winner, but then rejected. Read more at Nude Art Contest. |
