Skinnydippers Not Yet Able to Resume Swims
Although the Surrey, B.C., Skinnydippers won a Supreme Court decision against the city of Surrey to re-establish their nude swims at the Newton Wave Pool in November, they have not resumed their swims. In a recent interview, Skinnydippers Recreation president Paul Andreassen said, “The city is making it as difficult as possible to get back in.” The Skinnydippers held regular late-night nude swims at the Newton Wave Pool until they were banned after a council vote. Andreassen said the city has set up nine conditions for the group’s return. The Skinnydippers have met all of the conditions except one which prohibits signing up new members poolside. Tunick’s Next Photo Shoot
Following his successful photo shoot in South Beach last year, Spencer Tunick’s next nude photo shoot will take place in Vienna. The event will take place on May 11 at the Ernst-Happel Stadium. Tunick has photographed thousands of nude subjects for his installations in such diverse locations as New York, London and Amsterdam. His largest installation took place in 2007 in Mexico City, where 18,000 people were photographed at once. Six hundred people also braved 10-degree weather to pose for photographs in the Swiss Aletsch Glacier last year. One of the photos from that series was organized in collaboration with Greenpeace, and Time magazine called it “one of the best pictures of the year 2007.” All of Tunick’s subjects are volunteers, who he calls “living sculptures.” Read more or volunteer for the photo shoot at Tunick Vienna.

New Book Promotes Body Acceptance
Author Rosanne Olson asks the basic question “How long does it take us to realize how beautiful we are?” in her new book this is who I am: our beauty in all shapes and sizes. The book is a series of essays and nude portraits of women to whom Olson put the question “What is there to love about each of our bodies?”
On her website, Olson says that women’s magazines constantly tell women how they should look–tall and thin–which is an impossible standard for most women. She found that even those considered “perfect” by society struggled with body acceptance. Find more information and read an excerpt at Body Image Book.
