FCC Proposes $1.4 Million Fine For NYPD Blue Scene
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed a $1.4 million indecency fine against the Walt Disney Company’s ABC network over a 2003 episode of NYPD Blue. The episode in question shows a woman’s naked buttocks in a scene where a young boy walks in on the nude woman taking a shower. In a notice filed on Friday, the agency said it had received “numerous complaints” after the show was shown on 52 ABC stations in the Central and Mountain time zones at 9 p.m., in violation of federal restrictions against broadcasting “obscene material” between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. The network opposes the fine and plans to appeal. Publisher Censors Children’s Book, Then Relents
A U.S. edition of a German children’s book will be published in the United States after its publication was initially scrapped over an illustration inside the book. The drawing of a scene in an art museum features cartoon depictions of a nude painting and a male nude statue. Boyds Mills Press of Pennsylvania asked the author to airbrush the drawings, fearing objections over the nudity. The author, Rotraut Susanne Berner, 58, of Munich draws group scenes filled with objects, animals and people to encourage pre-school readers to discuss what they see in the pictures. The author refused to make the changes, withdrawing it from the U.S. market. After the request caused an outrage in Germany, Boyds Mills Press agreed to drop its demands and release the book, which is already a bestseller in 13 countries. Read more at Children’s book.

Fly the Naked Skies
Fifty-five passengers will be able to fly naked on Germany’s first nudist holiday flight, offered by an eastern German travel firm, according to Reuters.com. Travel agency OssiUrlaub.de said it would start taking bookings Friday for a trial nudist day trip to the popular Baltic Sea resort of Usedom for 499 euros or $735 USD. Passengers will remain clothed until they board and will have to dress before disembarking. The flight will close a gap in Germany’s nudist travel market. Naturism, or “free body culture” (FKK) as it is known in Germany, was banned by the Nazis but boomed again after WWII. Although FKK hotels, restaurants, and shops are abundant, this will be the first naked flight.
