3 Day Wilderness Canuding Trip

AANR-SW is sponsoring a 3-day, 2 night, wilderness canuding trip on
the Rio Grande River in the canyons of Big Bend National Park. This
is a fully supported and guided trip by professional river guides.
Participation is for AANR members only and is limited to 20
individuals. Trip is scheduled for late October 2008. Last year we
saw no other people from lunch the 1st day until the take-out the 3rd
day, a perfect nudist wilderness experience.

AANR-SW supports this canuding trip because it provides an
opportunity for AANR members to participate in a unique form of nude
recreation. AANR-SW permits advertisement of the canuding trip to
AANR members for promotional purposes only. AANR-SW assumes no

trip and assumes no responsibility for the safety of persons or
property going on such trip.

Sunsport Gardens has been host to the mid-winter naturist gathering for 20 years.  It’s a chance for naturists to escape from the ravages of northern winters and spend a few days basking in the warm Florida sun.

City Drops Obscenity Case A display ad for clothing brand Abercrombie & Fitch caused a stir in Virginia Beach this month after authorities confiscated two display photos from a clothing store and cited the manager on a misdemeanor obscenity charge. One photograph showed three shirtless young men with one of the men’s upper buttocks showing. The other image was of a woman whose arm covered her naked breast. Police issued the summons after customers at the Lynnhaven Mall complained. The manager of the store was charged because there is no legal way to issue a summons to a corporation under such circumstances. City officials later dropped the charge after it was determined that it would be difficult to meet the standards of the law which states that the display had to “appeal to prurient interests, lack redeeming artistic merit and be offensive to prevailing community standards.” Read more at Obscenity case.

Section 800.03 of the Florida Statutes addresses the exposure or exhibition of sexual organs in a public place. Based on the existing wording of the law, 800.03 has been held by Florida Courts to make such exposure illegal only when it is done in a lewd manner.

House Bill 801 proposes changes to the wording of 800.03 that could jeopardize the protection for naturists afforded by current judicial rulings. Moreover, the bill seeks to add increased penalties under 800.03 in certain locations and during certain times of day. Nudity within 1,000 feet of a “state, county, or municipal park” or “a public beach” would be an automatic felony at any time. The legislation poses an obvious and severe threat to naturists at clothing-optional Florida beaches like Haulover, which is a public beach located within a county park. Other Florida sites would be at similar risk.

 After years of planning, Lake Como has added a new RV/Mobile Home section.  For many years, Lake Como, Florida’s oldest nudist resort,  was known for its friendly atmosphere, and in the same breath the caveat “but it’s very rustic”.  In the past 5 years, they have added state of the art tennis complex and now have developed a new RV & Mobile Home park in what was once a dying orange grove.

While the new development takes some of the “rustic” away, I’m sure Lake Como will remain a friendly  place for nudists.  Lake Como has a special place in the heart on many nudists, and we all applaud the continuation of their progress.
