Spencer Tunick Shoots South Beach
Over 600 people in South Beach bared all last week for Spencer Tunick’s latest project, held at the Sagamore Hotel. Tunick, a photographer and artist of the human form, will display the final works at the annual Art Basel festivities in Miami Beach in December. Tunick was reportedly pleased with the diversity of the volunteers’ bodies, preferring not to focus on only the toned and tanned that habituate South Beach. The current photo shoot is the latest in Tunick’s long history of photographing scores of nude human bodies in various locations around the world in such cities as Barcelona, New York and, most recently, Amsterdam. This year, Tunick made headlines when 18,000 volunteers posed nude in Mexico City. Read more and watch a slide show of the South Beach photo shoot.

Eva Mendes, Actress and Nude Gardener
The latest celebrity to speak out about the joys of nude recreation is model/actress Eva Mendes. In recent interviews, Mendes reveals that she “loves being naked” and is so comfortable with her body that she does everything nude, even the gardening. “We’re Cuban, and it’s a hot island. Why not go nude?” she says. Mendes was not as comfortable doing a nude love scene in her recent movie “We Own the Night,” also starring Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix and Robert Duval. In August, Mendes was featured on the cover of Jane magazine’s final issue, “The Body Issue.” Inside the magazine, she spoke about refusing to follow Hollywood’s dictates about body image. Nude Saunas Part of Daily Life in Helsinki
Public saunas are a part of everyday life in Helsinki, as reporter Sarah Shuckburgh discovered on a recent visit. Helsinki residents visit saunas after work to relax and socialize, similar to the way North Americans stop at their neighborhood bar or coffee shop after a day on the job. Nudity is considered natural in Finland, and citizens tout the saunas’ health benefits saying they have fewer colds and other illnesses because of this stress-free, natural way of life. Did Schuckburgh decide to try the saunas herself? At the end of her article, she says she was so relaxed after the experience that she slept “lulled by the rhythmic splashing of nude swimmers in the pool below.” Read more at Helsinki saunas.
