Plans Underway for November Board Meeting
Yesterday a team from the AANR office met with Ted Hadley, Regis, and others of the Cypress Cove staff to make arrangements for the fall Board of Trustees meeting in November. The weekend theme will be “The Fabulous 50’s” and will include entertainment by The Dukes, an era band of considerable local renown. Please read Carolyn Hawkins’ report below for more information.
Canaveral National Seashore Update
Within the past several weeks, we have received reports about stepped up warnings and law enforcement activity on Playalinda Beach (on the Brevard County, Florida, side of the Canaveral National Seashore). With help from AANR-Florida Vice President and Government Affairs Team leader Hugh Williams and a local contingent from the seashore, we have arranged for a meeting with local law enforcement to discuss the matter.
Government Affairs
Debra Sue Stevens, who has been doing an excellent job assisting AANR with Government Affairs efforts following Pat Orner’s departure, has been hard at work following up on the valuable contacts made at NCSL. Together with a volunteer from AANR-West, they have entered the names of these contacts into a “lawmaker’s database” to help us tap them as needed. Debra has also facilitated sending personal thank-you notes to each and every one of these policymakers.
In other work this week, Debra prepared a CapWiz dispatch sent to over 1,000 members inviting them to attend the next regularly scheduled cleanup on Assateague Beach.

FYI to Clubs
Several months ago a producer from the Dr. Phil Show contacted the AANR office looking for folks to appear on the show regarding nudism. They are again contacting clubs to have someone appear. With the assistance of our PR team, we declined the show and are suggesting that you also continue to decline. We do not see this as a positive appearance. If you have any questions, please call the AANR office.
POSITIVE PUBLICITY
The following article appeared in the Hartford Courant

NOVEMBER BOARD MEETING
Cypress Cove is in the process of setting aside rooms and apartments for the November meeting and will need the names of those who will be attending. They do have several pet rooms and apartments, but you should let them know as soon as possible to be sure that you get what you need. You can make your reservations at 407/933-5870 or 888/683-3140. The dates for the meeting will be Friday, November 16 through Saturday, November 17, with November 15 and 18 being travel days.
Cypress Cove’s activities department has planned the following events.
Thursday night, November 15: Dean & Barbara will have a welcome cocktail party
Friday night, November 16, 7 p.m.: Hermit Crab races (You do not want to miss this.)
8 p.m. Karaoke
Saturday, November 16: Back to the 1950s dance so be sure to bring your ‘50s attire. The band is excellent.
MEDIA AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
We have had a lot of response regarding the Media Ambassador Program. If you are interested in the Media Ambassador program, let me know so I can email the application to you. We are looking for a diverse group of individuals, so it is very important for you to get your application to us so it can be reviewed. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
THINK GREEN
Did you know that approximately 16 percent of adults in the U.S., that’s 35 million people, are currently considered “green” consumers? That means people who make purchasing decisions based on the product or service having a commitment to being environmentally sensitive.
To be able to market AANR to this audience, we want to find out what clubs are doing in the area of ecology and sustainability. For example, are you recycling, using recycled paper and soy-based ink in your printed materials, using recycled paper products in your bathrooms, using biodegradable utensils at food functions, and more?
Tell us what you’re doing. We think there’s a story here to be told, naturally!

ADVOCATE FOR THE RIGHTS OF ALL NUDISTS
More NCSL News: Postings were made on a blog from the St. Petersburg Times. Among the more unusual displays is one for Kissimmee-based American Association for Nude Recreation. “We’re about wholesome family-oriented clubs,” said Executive Director Erich Schuttauf. One of goals for the week is to caution legislators about the dangers of “overly broad” laws that target adult entertainment but end up hurting nudist camps. For more information, visit: http://blogs.
Brattleboro, Vermont: Though reports have been made that Brattleboro has dropped the anti-nudity ordinance, the controversy is not settled. The Town of Brattleboro reports on their Web site that language passed by the Select board on July 17, passed again on August 7, to be effective an additional 30 days or until September 16, 2007. For more information, visit their Web site at: www.brattleboro.
Appropriate Activities on Public Lands
Assateague Beach Cleanup, Maryland: The Friends of Assateague State Park Beach Clean-up is scheduled for September 15th. This is a clothed event, so please remember that it could be a little chilly. Members will meet at the ranger station that is located across the parking lot from the bathhouse at 9 a.m. Cross the bridge onto the Island and continue to the parking lot on the right at the end of the road. To sign up and for additional information concerning this event, contact Ray Simpson at raysimpson@verizon.
Cape Cod, Florida: Bill Falconer is leading an AANR team to work with local law enforcement and park officials. Recently, law enforcement has stepped up their activities because beach-goers have migrated outside the boundaries of the traditional beach and the some of the behaviors have not been appropriate.
