at Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown, MA
9:00 am, Saturday, June 9, 2007
The Cape Cod Nudist and Naturist Coalition needs naturists, their friends and anyone else willing to support us attend our eleventh annual beach cleanup.
For the past ten years naturists and their supporters from all over the country have gathered to cleanup a section of the Cape Cod National Seashore. In this time we have cleaned up more than 60 miles of beaches and trails and collected more than 30 truckloads of trash. We have also donated $1,200 to procure low flow showerheads at Herring Cove Beach.
This effort has helped us establish good relations with the National Park Service Rangers and has shown that we are good citizens concerned about the environment.
The goal of the Coalition is to reestablish a traditional designated clothing optional section of the beach.
A pre-clean-up count is important to schedule the services provided by CCNS and the Coalition. A THANK YOU noon picnic will be held followed by a chance to relax on a nearby beach.
While he is not a naturist, Spencer Tunick does a lot to promote body acceptance. Many nudists and naturists track his activities as he goes from city to city and country to country taking photos of masses of naked humans in artistic poses. Tunick became famous a few years ago with his series of photographs, “Naked States”, where he took photos of nude models in every state. Naked States was a Gallery Exhibit and an HBO Documentary. He has now expanded to shooting in other countries, with his most recent, Mexico gathering 18,000 willing models.

Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
AANR in Oregon
On Monday, AANR President John Kinman and others from The Willamettans club of Marcola, Oregon, traveled to the statehouse to present testimony against HJR 56, a bill to put a question on the November ballot over amending the state’s constitution to enable communities to put additional restrictions on nudity. Given the very sudden nature of this bill (it was introduced on 4/24 and already scheduled for a hearing on 4/30) there were only two groups mobilized to testify against HJR 56: the ACLU and AANR/AANR NW.
John’s testimony was well-received by the committee and, though the bill was reported out of the Judiciary Committee which heard it, it went to the rules committee WITHOUT any due pass recommendation.
Last Friday, many of you who are Oregon residents responded to a dispatch sent over the AANR Cap Wiz system. We deeply appreciate your taking the time to e-mail lawmakers, and there was evidence at the hearing that your efforts paid off. According to John, at least one committee member told the panel that he had been contacted by a number of constituents “over the weekend†who voiced concerns in line with the talking points raised in the Cap Wiz dispatch!
AANR at Assateague
Over the weekend approximately thirty volunteers from nudist ranks turned out to join in the annual cleanup on Assateague Beach along Maryland’s Eastern Shore. As many of you know, AANR and AANR East have been working to bring back a clothing-optional area there. AANR/AANRE’s lobbyist was on hand, and brought with him a senior official from a park police agency to view the project. Nearly 50 non-nudists from groups like the Friends of Assateague were also there.
I thank Ray Simpson for spearheading volunteer recruitment efforts and providing the local contact for this event. I also thank AANR East President Susan Weaver and Jim Corsentino of AANR East Government Affairs for both attending this event. Finally, I appreciate Carolyn Hawkins of our office for traveling up to cook for all volunteers.
Additional details will appear in an upcoming article in The Bulletin.
AANR Helping Clubs
This week I traveled to South Florida to join representatives of a club that is forming in meeting with county officials. It was a very productive meeting, although uphill battles in bringing nude recreation to a community that has not yet hosted a club are likely.
An East Coast club that is forming also discussed its plans and how AANR can assist with marketing, market research, and promotions with staff this week.
Another Issue of the E-Bulletin Goes Live
Below, please find Lynn Von Hagel’s summary of the stats reported on the latest e-mailing within just the first 24 hours.
In that time period, 36 percent of the nearly 8,000 members who were e-mailed the latest edition of the E-Bulletin opened their emails. Twenty-one percent clicked through to the links featured in the articles. The biggest click-through so far is information about purchasing the 2007 AANR Convention T-shirt at The Willamettans. Second is a story about a Canadian principal who was suspended for an artistic nude photo posted on his personal Web site and how you can help ensure this does not happen to you. If you are not receiving the E-Bulletin, e-mail e.bulletin@yahoo.
Carolyn Hawkins – Public Relations
Carolyn is out of the office this afternoon but has been hard at work for AANR this week. In addition to facilitating with the Assateague Cleanup last weekend and cooking for all the hungry volunteers who attended, she has begun promoting Nude Recreation Week.
Interviews and press this week include:
- An Interview with The London Times
- A series of interviews with radio station concerning World Nude Gardening Day
- Distributing press releases and pitches about World Nude Gardening Day. One was picked up and reported here: http://www.insideba
The story references AANR, and the link takes readers to the official WNGD website.

Nude Recreation Week ‘Takes Off’
Annual Celebration Runs July 9-15, 2007
CITY, State – (May XX, 2007) – The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) and The Naturist Society (TNS) are teaming up this summer to encourage Americans to take off their clothes during the annual Nude Recreation Week celebration, July 9–15, 2007. AANR and TNS encourage first timers to enjoy clothes-free relaxation during Nude Recreation Week at home or at one of the many AANR- and TNS-affiliated clubs.
This annual celebration is for individuals and families — anyone can contact a clothing-optional club affiliated with AANR or TNS to experience firsthand one of the fastest growing trends in both travel and recreation.
(Insert club event and/or festivities information here)
For those looking to try something new in the comfort of their own home, TNS and AANR recommend these “fab five†activities:
Cool off: skinny-dip in your backyard pool.
Make housekeeping fun: ditch those clothes, turn on some music and get out the mop.
Get in touch with nature: shed those threads and grab your garden tools.
Exercise in the altogether: hit the treadmill or dust off one of the workout videos.
Telecommute in the nude: working from home, in the nude, is in fact increasing in popularity!
First-timers are invited to don their birthday suits at home or at a nudist club and experience the personal liberation, stress-relief, and simple comfort of nudism.
Parties interested in visiting should call [NAME OF CLUB] in advance to inquire about current activities. Media interested in setting up interviews or a visit, should contact the club’s spokesperson (listed above).
AANR’s mission is to advocate for nudity in appropriate settings as well as educate and inform the public about its value through ongoing membership growth. It is the oldest and largest organization of its kind representing nearly 50,000 members and their families, who enjoy clothes-free recreation throughout North America. For further information on nude recreation and AANR’s affiliated clubs, contact AANR at 1-800-TRY-NUDE or visit the association’s Web site at www.aanr.com. Cap Wiz Legislative Alert and Advocacy Tools
Only 20% of the data base is updated
Cap Wiz is a new advocacy tool that AANR has purchased so that as the team is made aware of bills that our membership will want to know about – we can send alerts. It has many other great benefits like being able to check who your current political leaders are and even the ability to send letters to your local media. AANR would NEVER sell or give out member personal information. It is for this very reason that we loaded only the email addresses that our members have give AANR on the www.aanr.com Web site to the Cap Wiz database. Requests are being sent out to let members know that if they want to receive legislative alerts and/or use the Cap Wiz tool – they need to update the Cap Wiz profile or unsubscribe and no alerts will be sent.
All clubs are urged to have their members subscribe to this vital tool and complete the personal information on the AANR Cap Wiz website as soon as possible. http://capwiz.

Below you will see a recap of events taking place in various states, as well as the federal government. In most cases, these developments do not involve nude recreation directly. However, they do show which topics are on the minds of lawmakers… and as long as lawmakers are pursuing these issues, they are less likely to be “waging war†on nudity.
Entries are excerpted from State Net news digests.
Florida
In an unprecedented move to make the state’s Bright Futures Scholarship Program independent of tuition, the legislature approved a measure that could increase tuition at two top schools by 40 percent in a matter of years. The vote came just two weeks after the legislature passed a bill banning discrimination against gay couples. Gov. Ted Kulongoski says he will sign both bills, which will make Oregon law among the most gay-friendly in the nation.

RE: IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT IN OREGON – OREGON MEMBERS NEEDED TO HELP STOP STATE ANTI-NUDITY MEASURE
Dear AANR members, and especially those AANR Northwest Members in Oregon:
We are writing to you about Oregon HJR 56, a measure that presents a serious threat to nude recreation for all who live in this state.
Why we are concerned…
If HJR 56 passes, Oregon voters will be invited to pass an amendment to the Oregon Constitution giving local communities the power to regulate and prohibit nudity and “stripping.†As nudists, we are concerned with this bill because it represents a major change in the status quo.
Oregon State courts have consistently held that, under the First Amendment of the Oregon State Constitution, citizens of this state enjoy greater rights to freedom of speech and expression than under the U.S. Constitution. As a result, these courts have refused to allow placing undue restraints on nudity and nude dancing while other courts throughout this country increasingly allow it to be regulated out of existence.
Nudists and Naturists might be less likely to develop Cancer. Can nude sunbathing be the simple solution to the prevention of major Cancers? Think of the possibilities; a naked Breast Cancer Three Day, a Nude Run For The Cure, or Relay For Life in the buff.  Not only would the participants improve their own chances of not developing Cancer, but media coverage would increase dramatically.
Recent research has determined that Vitamin D is essential to prevention of Cancer. While the dangers of skin cancer may still be present, the researchers say that it is overcome by the reduction in more prevalent life-threatening forms of Cancer.
The researchers note that dietary sources of Vitamin D are not adequate for the body to produce the required amount of Vitamin D. However, a short period of full-body exposure to the sun every day triggers the needed amount of Vitamin D production.
