NAC Update - California - American River

May 31, 2007 By: USAnudist Category: TNS NAC Releases Comments Off

PUBLIC WORKSHOP #2 - MAY 30, 2007

Last evening’s event in Auburn was the second of three planned public workshops. Once again, naturists have made a significant showing. Naturists, including those who were responding to NAC’s Action Alert of May 23, 2007, made up approximately 15 percent of the diverse group of participants.

Nude In Northern Colorado

May 31, 2007 By: USAnudist Category: Nudist News Comments Off

There’s an interesting article about nude activities in NEXTNC.com, Life in Northern Colorado. Let’s hope more articles can be written like this in the future, without the stale nudist jokes that seem so prevalent. I applaud this well-written article.

Oh! Naturel: Taking it all off

If you are reading this, you’ve probably already noticed the naked guy on the cover.
Heck, that’s probably why you picked this up in the first place. The thing is, there’s just something intriguing about nudity. It’s controversial. It’s provocative. It’s beautiful. It’s natural.

It’s seen everywhere but not talked about nearly as much. The truth, though, is there are plenty of people in Colorado stripping down — some for a cause, some for art or advertising and some just because.

SUBJECT: Oregon House Bill 3317
TOÂ Â Â Â : All Naturists and other concerned individuals

Dear Naturist,

The Naturist Action Committee (NAC) advises you of Oregon legislation. This legislation is NOT a present threat to naturists.

HOUSE BILL 3317

Oregon House Bill 3317 was poorly written 2007 legislation intended to redefine and punish the crime of so-called “private indecency.” HB 3317 was a bill the Naturist Action Committee would surely have opposed vigorously if it had shown any signs of viability, but it was clear from the beginning that this bill was going nowhere. NAC kept a close eye on it and tracked it carefully.

You didn’t see anything about it earlier on the NAC Web site or in the form of a NAC Action Alert or Advisory, because NAC tries to reserve those communication tools for meaningful issues. HB 3317 was a non-starter.

However, there has been a recent flurry of questions to NAC concerning the status of HB 3317, so NAC is issuing this Advisory. (more…)

SUBJECT: Victory in Texas! House Bill 1466 Dies
TO : All naturists

Dear Naturist:

The Naturist Action Committee (NAC) declares victory in the fight against a legislative bill that threatened naturists in the state of Texas.

Texas House Bill 1466 attempted statewide regulation of sexually oriented businesses. The bill’s broad primary definition would have included naturist and nudist parks, camps and resorts. Any other business (like a health club or bowling alley) that might be rented or used temporarily for naturist activities could also have been defined as a sexually oriented business.

With help from NAC and NAC’s professional legislative lobbyist, House Bill 1466 found itself mired in committee. The bill is dead.

DATE : May 24, 2007
SUBJECT: Mazo Beach
TO : All Naturists and other concerned citizens

Dear Naturist,

The Naturist Action Committee (NAC) wishes to advise you of multiple
developing situations at Mazo Beach in Dane County, Wisconsin. This NAC
Advisory has been developed in close cooperation with Friends of Mazo
Beach (FOMB), the local user group for the traditional clothing-optional
site on the Wisconsin River.

DNR’S WELL PUBLICIZED “CRACKDOWN”

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced that
its rangers will be at Mazo Beach this coming weekend, targeting lewd
behavior and disorderly conduct. A DNR spokesman has said that rangers
will NOT be making arrests for mere nudity. Dane County authorities have
historically refused to prosecute such arrests.

Naturists have never been proponents of lascivious public behavior, nor
are they advocates for those who would intentionally confuse nudity with
sex. In that context, naturists should welcome narrow enforcement based
on the proper distinctions voiced recently by DNR.

Dear Naturist,

This is an Action Alert from the Naturist Action Committee concerning an
important opportunity in the state of California.

In conjunction with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the California
Department of Parks & Recreation is continuing its development of a joint
General Plan / Resource Management Plan for the Auburn State Recreational
Area (Auburn SRA). Naturists have already made themselves a significant
part of that process, and it is essential that we continue our high level
of involvement.

TO : All naturists

Dear Naturist,

The Naturist Action Committee (NAC) is encouraging you to take two
minutes of your time to participate in an online exercise that may prove
to be beneficial to Wreck Beach.

Wreck Beach, located in British Columbia, is one of the premier
clothing-optional beaches in North America. In recent years, the site has
been constantly menaced by authorities who do not accept its unique
geographical, ecological, historical and social significance. The result
has been a continuing series of threats to the character of the beach,
including its use as a clothing-optional venue.

Nude Beach Users Request Crackdown On Crime

May 21, 2007 By: USAnudist Category: Nudist News Comments Off

Naturists at Mazo Beach have complained to Department of Natural Resources officials about the use of drugs, lewd behavior and disorderly conduct on Wisconsin’s only legal nude beach. The complaints of inappropriate behavior were higher last year.

This is just another example of how we need to keep working with authorities to make sure our limited places to enjoy nude recreation aren’t compromised by the actions of a few people who aren’t willing to play by the rules.

Clothes-Free or Clothing-Optional?

May 20, 2007 By: USAnudist Category: The Great Naked Debate Comments Off

The Great Naked Debate is a new series that brings some of the top nudist bloggers together, offering you a different perpective in one place on a number of key naturist issues. For this first installment, the panel was asked:

Clothes-Free or Clothing optional - Which is better?

[You can click on blog names to visit participating sites.]

USA Nudist
While clothing optional has the advantage of being more acceptable for the novice’s first time in a nudist environment, it does have the stigma of having been, in the past, more associated with the resorts with less restrictive sexual behavior standards. Clothes-free does not mean nude all the time. Even the hardiest souls must occasionally cover-up in inclement weather or to prevent overexposure to the sun. While clothing-optional may, at first, be more inviting to newcomers, clothes-free is the option chosen by most real nudists.

Naturist Journal
Clothing Optional - I’ve been involved in so many events where people wanted to attend and were sincerely curious but not quite ready to take the plunge. I find that making events clothing optional helps people take that step in the door to give this naturist idea a chance. And there are others, such as my wife, while comfortable nude, isn’t always comfortable in every naturist situation so it gives them the freedom to participate as their own level of comfort allows.

Gymnophiliac
Nude is better than either term. Clothing-centric language seems like an attempt to obfuscate what we’re really about, whereas “nude” is unambiguous, clear, and honest.

Tom Mulhall
[abbreviated] Nudist Resort sounded too scary to first timers…First timers told us “‘clothing optional’, I could try that as there are clothing-optional beaches in Europe and the Caribbean.” …There is research done by TANR (trade association for nude recreation) where people who have never tried nude sunbathing like the expression “clothing-optional” better than “nudist” resorts. They feel it gives them a choice, especially women. This study was done around 7 or 8 years ago, so the expression clothes-free was not in use at that time.

Diary of a Nudist
Clothing-optional is better because it allows freedom of choice, although I certainly understand why some resorts are clothes-free because they want to keep out the gawkers. A fair compromise seems to be when resorts require at least one member of a group to be nude at all times when on the grounds, but it seems that most of the clothing optional facilities require nudity in the pool and hot tub areas anyway.

Nudist Day
Clothes-Free all the way. Clothing-optional conveys the idea that you DON’T have to get naked. On the other hand, if everybody is nude, it’s more likely to incite newbies to do likewise. Note that “clothing-optional” is an American concept, the tendency elsewhere in the world is to require nudity or “don’t bother coming”.

Non-nudists create another stir in Battleboro

May 19, 2007 By: USAnudist Category: Nudist News Comments Off

Another year has begun in Battleboro, Vermont, and with warmer weather the naked kids will soon be back in the streets. While it seems to be a very big deal to a few vocal members of the community, overall, it appears that it is a non-issue for the majority of residents.

Vermont and Battleboro have no laws against non-sexual nudity. Last year, after groups of local high school kids began hanging around a downtown park nude, a vote was taken to create a local ordinance regulating public nudity. The voters defeated the adoption of the ordinance.

It appears that no harm has been done by these activities other than for those few people who are so vocal about it, being troubled that no one is upset by naked bodies. While it may not be a reality for most towns, it seems the people of Battleboro have a good thing going. This would be a much saner world if sometimes people would just forget their troubles and walk in the sun.

But then along comes a young man who decided to push the limits and dance in the streets naked. Apparently, while not described by the arresting officers, his actions were enough to warrant that he be charged with felony lewd and lascivious conduct. While I support the right of the citizens of Battleboro to enjoy the joys of being nude, they do have a responsibility to uphold the standards of the community.

Illegal activity can only degrade the support of the community, who otherwise mostly seem to be tolerant of simple nudity. So, kids of Battleboro, don’t make any mistakes. You could be on the forefront of a new era of body acceptance in America.
