Half-Naked or Half-Clothed?
Have you ever noticed in the news you always see the term “Semi-Nude” or “Half-Naked”? I noticed the terms popping up time after time on Google & Yahoo news feeds. It’s also common on TV & Radio news as well as newspapers. You could always imagine someone wearing the left or right side of their clothes. I suppose that would be a useful way to measure the degree of nakedness.
What about wearing only a thong or teeny little yellow polka-dot bikini? Would the person be 99% naked? No, that would be considered normal by the warped perspective of the gymnophobes.
A trip to South Beach will reveal hundreds of women wearing four square inches of cloth, with bare breasts, and they’re considered appropriately dressed. But if someone walks out the door of their hotel on that same beach in their underwear, they’d be labeled “Half-Naked”.
This implies that our natural state is clothed and the removal of that clothing is the abberation. Wouldn’t the correct terminology be “Half-Clothed”? We are born naked, therefore a person’s natural state is nude, and clothes are added to that nudity.
