Sunsport Gardens Family Naturist Resort is hosting a debate this week for the Loxahatchee Groves town council candidates. Sunsport, a 42 year old facility, has long been a part of the local community, but the town itself was incorporated only last year.

Of the ten candidates invited, only one refuses to attend the event at Sunsport. Toni Vorsteg, Seat 1 candidate, said she won’t be there because she doesn’t want to put fellow parishioners or their children in a “potentially embarrassing situation.” Vorsteg teaches children’s classes at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Catholic church. I enjoyed seeing many of you last week during the mid-winter meeting of AANR’s Board of Trustees. It’s evident from the many detailed committee reports presented, that there are exciting things happening with our Association this year. From Government Affairs to enhancing AANR’s brand through Public Relations, to updates on the marketing consultant program, there was plenty to talk about.

I deeply appreciate the warm welcome that Lake Como club extended to us and its excellent service. The club has added some great amenities and facilities since our last meeting there, too. (more…)

threatening legislation in the state of Texas.

Texas House Bill 1466 attempts statewide regulation of sexually oriented
businesses. Of greatest alarm to naturists is the bill’s primary
definition that puts at risk all naturist and nudist parks, camps and
resorts, as well as any business (like a health club or bowling alley)
that might be rented or used temporarily for naturist activities.

important situation involving Gaviota State Park in California.

Acting on reports that park rangers were informing naturists that the
traditionally clothing-optional beach was being closed to nudity, the
Naturist Action Committee has become involved. NAC is working with
officials of the California Department of Parks & Recreation and with
local naturists to resolve the situation.

The Mid Winter Naturist Festival kicked off activities Friday by taking a field trip to MacArthur Beach State Park. One of the organizers of the event, T.A. Wyner, a well known naturist free speech advocate, said seven out of the 20 who attended formed a nude human peace sign.

Running from Thursday, February 15, through Tuesday, February 20, hosted by Sunsport Gardens Family Naturist Resort, the festival provides an opportunity for naturists to explore important issues of nude beach activism and strategies to protect and promote opportunities for nude recreation.

Since most, if not all, nudist parks have a hot tub as a main feature, it is frequently the first place visited on arriving at the club. There is no better way to forget the outside world and get into a relaxed mood than let the worries and stress seep away in a pool of pulsing hot water.

It’s interesting to note what the customers of Olympic Hot Tub Company have to say. While Olympic Hot tubs is located in the Seattle area, home to a large population of nudists, I would not be surprised to find these same results from hot tub users everywhere.

While not all Olympic’s customers are of a naturist persuasion, it is interesting to note that when asked, 64% of customers said they used their hot tub nude. While this is down significantly from the 94% in their 1982 survey, it is still indicative in comparison to results from the 2006 NEF Roper Poll.

Roper asked about nude sunbathing & skinny-dipping, and found 24% answered they had participated. These results, indicating that twice as many use hot tubs nude than skinny-dip, points out an untapped resource.

I’m sure many hot tub users are well acquainted with nudist ways, but have never visited a nudist park, or naturist beach. We need to integrate home hot tubbers into club hot tubbers.

Reports of a man wearing only running shoes and glasses, described as very polite, were soon tinted by concerns that he might be dangerous, when he started actually talking to people.

If the man had been wearing jeans and a t-shirt, would the same behavior have been considered threatening? What made some people automatically think the worst of this man?

According to Rangers, it’s legal to be nude in this park unless you are in public view. Isn’t this a little contradictory? If you’re in public view, you should be on your best behavior. I’d be more concerned about people lurking around and hiding behind trees.

Unfortunatly, until more people accept naturism as normal and lose their irrational fears of seeing skin, we will have repeats of this scenario.

CBS channel 3 out of Philadelphia reports in a news video, that the College Naked Party is still going strong. Reports of these parties surfaced last month after a story in a New York magazine. Interviewing a Penn student who had attended naked parties in an off-campus house, they interspersed hidden camera video by The Insider at an undisclosed location.

Some attribute the adventures in nakedness to Tabloids and Hollywood’s bad influences, but Chris Fariello, a sex therapist, thinks otherwise.

Full frontal nudity goes mainstream

It’s not bad for a book by an American that couldn’t be published in the USA. Frank Cordelle’s Bodies and Souls: The Century Project, published in Canada last November, is now featured in one of America’s most popular magazines: Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine.

The March issue, which hit the newsstands today, contains a whole page devoted to Cordelle’s book. More importantly, the images of four naked women, three of them full-frontal, are large, in color, and completely uncensored.

Under the heading “The Naked Truth,” the magazine commentary notes with insight:

“Don’t cover your eyes. The women who appear in Bodies and Souls: The Century Project (Heureka Productions) want you to see them—really see them—in all their naked humanity.”

This may be the first time that nudity of American individuals has appeared so boldly in a mainstream American magazine. The women pictured in O Magazine are aged 24, 45, 56, and 94.

Is this an exception, or is it the beginning of a revolution in how we understand the naked body?
