Why not Christian Nudism?
It appears that some of our textile brothers are thinking about our lifestyle. In a post on Christianity.com’s Faith Community Network, jonah.1825 asks the question; “Why not Christian Nudism?”
Jonah says “If society was one big nudest colony the pornography industry would go out of business because nobody would notice or care. God created the human body and by covering it up in the name of modesty, we create an unhealthy interest about what is being covered.”
In general, there seems to be very limited christian charity and good will to men present in this forum. Responses vary from the typical quotes of the Old Tesatament pulled from context to the re-writing of history.
In a response from ctipton, the following series of words are picked from within their context to make a point;
“The scriptures say ‘I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety’. When the Greeks invaded the known world, the Jews rejected the Greek fascination with the human form and nudity and upheld the Torah and its demand for decency. They read God’s instruction ‘For the LORD your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you.’”
“No, this is not a Christian call at all, but a call to paganism. This is a call to reject holiness and purity.”
To quote the above bible verse completely…
“I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing. I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.” - 1 Timothy 2:8-10
It looks to me like Timothy was saying the same as many nudists… It’s your actions, not your clothes that measure your decency.
Also, I never learned in school the Greeks “invaded the known world”. I was always taught the Greeks were valued for their philosophical or clerical skills and welcomed by most cultures to serve as advisers.
